You've earned the viewer's attention for 27 seconds. What you do with the last 3 decides whether that attention compounds or evaporates. The call-to-action is the most under-optimized part of most Shorts.
One CTA per clip
The classic mistake is asking for everything: "like, comment, subscribe, and check out my other videos!" A viewer asked to do four things does none. Pick the single action that matters most for that clip:
- Growth CTA: "Follow for part 2." โ best when the clip is part of a series.
- Engagement CTA: "Comment your take." โ boosts comments, which the algorithm loves.
- Traffic CTA: "Full video on my channel." โ converts Shorts viewers into long-form subscribers.
- Share CTA: "Send this to someone who needs it." โ the highest-leverage action; shares are the strongest virality signal.
Make it specific and low-friction
"Subscribe" is vague. "Subscribe for one money tip every day" gives a reason. The best CTAs promise a specific future value in exchange for a two-second action.
Match the CTA to the content
A shocking fact pairs with a share CTA ("send this to a friend"). A tutorial pairs with a follow CTA ("follow for daily tips"). A story excerpt pairs with a traffic CTA ("watch the full story"). Mismatched CTAs feel like ads; matched ones feel like the natural next step.
Bake it in
Spoken CTAs get skipped; burned-in text CTAs get read. YT Clipper stamps your chosen CTA into the final 3 seconds of every clip, so the ending is never an afterthought.
